As much as Netflix has now managed to bring Neil Gaiman’s story to the small screen, there have been numerous occasions where Morpheus’s life wanted to be adapted and which, for different reasons, never materialized. One of those times he was in charge of Eric Kripke, creator of “The Boys” series.
Before it hit Netflix, ‘The man of sand’ it would have been adapted into a movie, in which Joseph Gordon-Levitt, famous for appearing in ‘500 Days with Summer’, allegedly gave birth to Morpheus. And not only that, because on another occasion the creator of the series ‘The Boys’ wanted to turn the story of Neil Gaiman into a TV show.
For many years the details of this failed project were kept secret, but now, on his Twitter account, Erick Kripke talks about his canceled adaptation of “The Sandman”‘, after Warner Bros called him to do the series, and now it only exists as a bad memory in his career.
Warner Bros. gave me a chance with The Sandman, but they said it had to be a network. “
The creator of ‘The boys’ said “The Sandman” was his favorite comic, and who knew perfectly the story of Morpheus and the Eternals. And even if he admits that “Neil [Gaiman] he was kind and patient, ”Eric Kripke admits that“ it was going to be a bad show in the end, ”even if he didn’t go into more detail.
Neil Gaiman praises Erick Kripke’s work with “The Sandman”
It all started with a response from Neil Gaiman to a fan who asked the creative what happened to Eric Kripke’s adaptation of “The Sandman”, which had just released “Supernatural”. Gaiman’s response was that the creator of the Amazon Prime Video superhero series did a “great job considering the limits” with the story of its adaptation.
Finally, Eric Kripke invited to see the first 10 episodes of the first season of “The Sandman” on Netflix, which he described as “exuberant” and “impressive”. “I’m glad he stood up,” added The Boys creator of the story starring Tom Sturridge.
So far, Neil Gaiman continues his campaign for Netflix to approve the second season of “The Sandman”, despite the fact that the fantasy series has reached the highest numbers in the recent history of the streaming platform, in more than 80 countries.
