ABC is bringing a new drama to viewers with a spin-off from the hit medical series The good doctor. The new show, entitled The good lawyerFrom The good doctor executive producers / co-showrunners David Shore And Liz Friedman. The series will have a female lead and will be introduced as a backdoor pilot during The good doctoris the upcoming sixth season, similar to the ABC series spin-off The rookie, The rookie: the fedswhich was introduced last season.
According to sources, two characters from The good lawyer, protagonist Joni and Janet will appear in episode 613 of The good doctorwith the currently chosen roles.
Written by Shore and Friedman, “The good lawyer will focus on Joni, a 20-year-old woman who fights OCD but is a brilliant lawyer and becomes a defense attorney for Dr. Shaun Murphy (Highmore) who finds herself in legal trouble.
“Relatively new to her luxury law firm, Joni, who is fun, eager, self-aware and a little anxious, is part of Shaun’s (Highmore) legal defense team. Despite her frenzy through law school and her bar exam, the symptoms of Joni’s OCD take a hard toll on her personal and professional life. Living with OCD, Joni has never wanted to be treated differently and is often embarrassed by her symptoms. She’s a great lawyer, who uses her attention to detail, excessive thinking and analytical skills like a superpower, but she was forced to threaten to sue the firm (for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act) when they tried to fire her because of her peculiar behaviors. The role is listed as open to all ethnicities and abilities.
“Armed with a fierce intellect and a dry, witty spirit, Janet is a highly regarded lawyer and partner of the firm. A seasoned veteran, Janet has represented Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) in various legal matters over the course of 30 years; so Glassman turns to her to represent her protege Shaun (Highmore). Having seen it all, Janet developed a cynical side, which contributed to her attempt to fire Joni. But when Shaun declares that he wants Joni to represent him, Janet is forced to give Joni the rope to hang them both.
“While Janet and Joni resemble the mentor-pupil duo of Glassman and Shaun The good doctorthe dynamic between the two characters is very different, at least in the beginning “.
I am a fan of the series The good doctor. I appreciate that the show has shed some light on someone on the autism spectrum and I can’t wait The good lawyer do the same with OCD. Will you tune in to this new series?
