
Guillermo del Toro has a new horror anthology series coming to Netflix, titled Cabinet of Curiosities. It offers an eerie first look at some of the twisted nightmares and violent delights of the show. It was also announced that the series will debut on October 25.
The series will consist of eight gruesome horror stories, and these sinister stories are told by some of today’s most revered horror creators. Del Toro discusses the series in the promo and features some great footage of each of the stories and showcases the practical makeup effects that were used to bring the creatures in these stories to life.
The stories inside Cabinet of Curiosities they are “designed to challenge our traditional notions of horror. From the macabre to the magical, from the gothic to the grotesque or the haunting classic, the eight sinister tales, including two original works by del Toro, will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors hand-picked by the Shape of water movie director”.
Del Toro said in a statement: “With Cabinet of Curiosities, we decided to show the realities existing outside our normal world: anomalies and curiosities. We have selected and curated a group of stories and storytellers to tell these stories, whether they come from space, from supernatural traditions or simply in our minds. Just in time for Halloween, each of these eight stories is a fantastic peek into the cabinet of delights that exists beneath the reality we live in. “
Writers and directors who will contribute to the series include Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), David Pryor (The empty man), Guillermo Navarro (Narcos), Keith Thomas (Fire starter), Panos Cosmato (Send), Catherine Hardwicke (Dusk), Vincenzo Natali (Cube), And Ana Lily Amirpour (A girl comes home alone at night).
The series also features an impressive cast which includes Andrea Lincoln, Ben Barnes, Essie Davis, Crisp glove, Eric André, Sofia Boutella, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Rupert Grint, Kate MicucciAnd Charlyne Yi. Other actors who had previously been announced include F. Murray Abraham, Luca Roberts, Tim Blake Nelson, Hanna Galway, Glynn Turman, Elpidia Carrillo, Demetrio Grosso, Sebastian Roché, Peter WellerAnd David Hewlett.

Dreams in the witch house: Rupert Grint (Servant), Ismael Cruz Cordova (The ruin), DJ Qualls (Turning point), Nia Vardalos (With love, Vittorio) and Tenika Davis (The legacy of Jupiter) protagonist in an episode written by Mika Watkins (Origin), based on a short story by HP Lovecraft and directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen).
Rats in the cemetery: David Hewlett (The shape of water) stars in a written episode, based on a short story by Henry Kuttner, and directed by Vincenzo Natali (In the tall grass).
Lot 36: Tim Blake Nelson (Guardians), Elpidia Carrillo (Predator), Demetrio Grosse (Fear the walking dead) and Sebastian Roché (The man in the high castle) protagonist of an episode written by Regina Corrado (Deadwood), based on an original story by del Toro and directed by Guillermo Navarro (Godfather of Harlem).
Pickman Model: Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bones)Crisp glove (Rivers edge), and Oriana Leman (The whale) starring in an episode written by Lee Patterson (Curve), based on a short story by HP Lovecraft and directed by Keith Thomas (Fire starter.
The autopsy: F. Murray Abraham (Amedeo), Glynn Turman (The black background of Ma Rainey) and Luke Roberts (Redemption) will appear in an episode written by David S. Goyer (The man of sand), based on a short story by Michael Shea and directed by David Prior (The empty man).
The murmur: Essie Davis (The Babadook), Andrew Lincoln (The walking dead) and Hannah Galway (Sex / Life) starring in an episode written (based on an original story by del Toro) and directed by Jennifer Kent (The Babadook).
The outside: Kate Micucci (The Little Hours) and Martin Starr (Silicon Valley) lead an episode written by Haley Z. Boston (Brand new cherry flavor), based on a short story by comic book author Emily Carroll, and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour (A girl comes home alone at night).
The vision: Peter Weller (Robocop), Eric André (Eric Andre’s show), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Charlyne Yi (Always be my maybe), Steve Agee (pacifier), Michael Therrialt (Locke and key) and Saad Siddiqui (DC legends of tomorrow) protagonist in an episode directed by Panos Cosmatos (Send), who also writes, along with Aaron Stewart-Ahn.
