More than a decade later Robert Pattinson played Edward Cullen ‘Dusk’, the actor still has a lot to share about his time as Hollywood’s most famous vampire. One of the more recent details he revealed is that playing him in that role nearly cost him the lead role because his agents considered him “pretty emo.”
In an interview with GQ, Robert Pattinson confessed that he nearly got fired from Twilight for the way in which he decided to give life to his character in the romantic fantasy saga: a touch too emo for the taste of his representatives, so much so that he warned him of what could have happened if he had not improved that interpretation.
During one of the recordings of “Twilight”, the actor’s reps visited him on set and saw some of the work he did in front of the screen. Eventually they thought about it Robert Pattinson played Edward Cullen “too emo” and they told him that if he didn’t improve that part of his job, he might see his firing coming.
They said, “Okay, so whatever you’re doing right now, do the opposite after lunch or you’ll be fired at the end of the day …”
In the end, none of this happened and although Robert Pattinson was heavily criticized for his character along with the rest of the cast and film; He also became one of the most famous performers of his time and his generation thanks to this saga of romantic fantasy films based on Stephenie Meyer’s literary series of the same name. Years later, he would be considered one of the most talented actors in the industry.
Twilight and Robert Pattinson’s Fever
When “Twilight,” the first adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s books, came out in the late 2000s, the popularity of the story, the film and the actors who were part of the main cast increased immeasurably. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Launther went from being independent actors to being the trend of the moment, and the Twilight Fever didn’t stop.
The success of the film marked that of the entire saga and also the popularity of its actors, but it was Robert Pattinson who attracted the attention of the public: he was always everywhere and his fame grew out of all proportion. And although he won many haters for playing Edward Cullen in “Twilight”, he ended up winning them over in his later films like “Highlife”, “The Lighthouse” or “The Batman”.
Now the actor is considered one of the best of his generation and, like Kirsten Stewart with his latest productions, has been acclaimed not only by his fans but also by audiences and critics specializing in film and television.
