MGM surprised fans by announcing the development of a new spin-off of “Rocky”. In this case, the production will follow the story of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), the legendary Russian boxer who stepped into the ring against Rocky Balboa during “Rocky IV”. The boxer’s son, Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), also appears in “Creed II: The Legend of Rocky” battling Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan).

The person chosen by MGM to write this new story is Robert Lawtonwho wanted to show the happiness this work means in a statement for Variety. “I’m incredibly honored and grateful for this opportunity, accepting it as a huge fan of the ‘Rocky’ franchise, who happens to be a writer.”.
Most of the details about “Dragon” are kept secret. Although there is no official confirmation, Lundgren and Munteanu should return as Ivan and Viktor., after seeing them together in the sequel ‘Creed II: The legend of Rocky’. Lundgren first played the character in 1985, becoming one of the saga’s most iconic opponents. Lundgren himself teased the spinoff news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year.
The release of “Creed III” has been delayed
MGM has also confirmed a delay from the date initially announced for the premiere of ‘Creed III’. The date in question, November 23, 2022, has been postponed and It won’t be until March 3, 2023 when we can see Michael B. Jordan return to the ring. This new version will also mean Jordan’s directorial debutwho has to combine this new job with his famous role as Creed.
‘Creed III’ will be the ninth film in the ‘Rocky’ saga and the first in which Rocky Balboa himself, played by Sylvester Stallone, never appears in the film since he has a dispute with the franchise rights firm. The sequel will again see Tessa Thompson and the addition of Jonathan Majors (‘Lovecraft Country’, ‘Loki’).
