Taron Egerton made headlines earlier this month when he commented that, after months and months of being one of the most frequently mentioned names in Wolverine rumors, he had in fact met Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. She merely confirmed that she had already spoken to him and, regarding the adamantine-clawed mutant, she commented: “I would be excited, but also worried, because Hugh (Jackman) is still very much associated with the role, so I wonder if it wouldn’t be very difficult for someone else to play it. The actor, however, clarified his words on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, explaining that meeting Kevin Feige had nothing to do with Wolverine but with a collaboration with Marvel in general, and reveals that he has mentioned another character who it wasn’t Logan: “The reality is that there has been a lot of fancasting. I had a general meeting with Kevin about four years ago, where I said I love movies and would love to do something, and he said it would be great if we could find something. Josh Horowitz, host of the podcast, showed the Russo brothers declaring himself a fan of Egerton and stating that “Taron should play Wolverine,” and the actor reacted by saying that “Joe (Russo) will receive a wonderful gift in the mail”.

The history of Taron Egerton and the X-Men is long. In another interview with Sway’s Universe, the actor recalled being one of those considered to play Cyclops in the prequels, a role he ended up going to Tye Sheridan. Egerton revealed why he decided to turn down the role: “It was true. There was a real conversation. And to be honest, I’ve never said that before, the reason the conversation never went any further was because I didn’t want to play a character in a potential film series where I wouldn’t see my eyes. For me, instinctively and creatively I feel that the eyes are the windows to the soul. I don’t know how, it would seem like a challenge, and it didn’t intrigue me enough. Not that I was offered it, but there was a conversation, a real conversation that didn’t go any further”.
Taron Egerton moves to Netflix
Marvel still has mutants on the sidelines. None of the Comic-Con announcements were related to them, so it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer to see them debut in the MCU. Taron Egerton, meanwhile, has a new project on the horizon. The actor will star in the thriller “Carry On” for Netflix and Amblin. According to Deadline, Jaume Collet-Serra will be in charge of directing the film which will focus on a Transportation Security Agency (TSA) agent blackmailed by a traveler who managed to steal a suspicious package on a flight on Christmas Day. The script is under review by Michael Green, with a first draft by TJ Fixman.
