‘Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro’: Netflix publishes the new trailer and the poster of the adaptation in stop-motion

After his latest bet for the Oscar race, as ‘The alley of lost souls’, Guillermo del Toro dived into a project he really wanted: a new adaptation of ‘Pinocchio’, the classic short story published between 1882 and 1883 which had countless versions. Although we haven’t heard from this new project since January, Netflix has released a new trailer and poster for ‘Pinocchio de Guillermo del Toro’, the new film from the Mexican director but this time Gepetto version and his famous wooden toy with stop-motion animation.

Although we are currently experiencing an overbooking of Pinocchio after the films of Robert Zemeckis and Matteo Garrone, The Guillermo del Toro stamp continues to be a guarantee of quality or, at least, of eccentricity. It’s something we can see in the new trailer, where you can see the style of the Mexican director with the designs of the same dolls in stop-motion, as well as the dark tone of the era. And it is no exception, because the film will be set in Italy in the 1930s, at the height of fascism and Benito Mussolini’s consolidation in power.

The trailer is presented with an off-screen narrative by Jiminy Cricket, who will tell us about it a story “of imperfect parents and imperfect children”. Let’s take a fresh look at the elderly carver Gepetto and the love he puts into every inch of wood for his son. under the maximum of “Love will give you life”, we are presented with a rather bright and grandiloquent magical fairy, who promises to lead on his way a Pinocchio who is only looking for his place in the world. In addition to this new preview, Netflix has also released a new poster.

A team behind

Guillermo del Toro’s name is just the tip of the iceberg of the authentic team Netflix has formed for this new adaptation. To start, The Mexican is not the only one to direct, as he shares directing with Mark Gustafson, animator of masterpieces such as ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’. When it comes to building the dolls, the team turned to Mackinnon and Saunders, who were already in charge of doing the same in another animation gem like Corpse Bride.

The original version features an all-star vocal cast: Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket, David Bradley as Gepetto and newcomer Gregory Mann as Pinocchio.. Also participating are Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton.

‘The Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro’ will arrive on the streaming platform this Christmas.
