Showtime has released the first trailer for its next series of adaptations of Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist’s vampire book Get the right one in. There have already been two major film adaptations and I’ve never seen the point of another adaptation, but Showtime is rolling the dice on another reimagining. It looks like it might be good.
Demián Bichir (Godzilla vs. Kong) plays Mark in the series, set ten years after his daughter, Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez), was bitten by a vampire. The couple move across the country and Mark must always find new ways to feed Eleanor’s bloodlust to keep her alive.
In the series, “Locked up at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed life, only able to go out at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive. With these emotionally charged and terrifying ingredients as a starting point, Let the Right One in will overturn the expectations of the genre, transforming a naturalistic lens on human frailty, strength and compassion.
The series obviously deviates from the book in some way, which is good, because we don’t really need to see the exact same story told again. He is also the protagonist Anika Noni Rose (Dream girls, power), Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot), Madison Taylor Baez (Selena: The series), Kevin Carroll (Snowfall), Ian Foreman (Good wishes) And Jacob Buster (Colony).
The show comes from the writer and producer Andrea Hinderaker (Penny terrible), who wrote the pilot, and with him will serve as showrunner and executive producer Seith Mann (Homeland), who directed the pilot and will also direct additional episodes.
Get the right one in will premiere on Showtime on October 7th.
