The water city of “Black Panther 2” is not Atlantis and Namor is not Marvel’s Aquaman – Flix Nation (AFP Agency)
Among the most anticipated films of 2022 is’Black Panther: Wakanda forever’from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which introduces not only a new villain (played by Tenoch Huerta) but also a world completely different from the one seen before: a city submerged in the ocean, which It won’t be Atlantis like in the comics.
the Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta becomes the mighty Namorthat in the comics he is tasked with ruling the lost city of Atlantis, just like DC’s Aquaman does, and in the UCM these similarities will be presented differently so audiences don’t relate the role of the villain from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ‘with that of Jason Momoa.
For starters, Marvel gave Namor a not-so-subtle touch of Mayan culture, bringing a clear Mexican representation and inclusion to the big screen, where Tenoch Huerta becomes a new UCM characteraccompanied by Mabel Cadena and Josué Maychi, however, there is another detail that distinguishes him from Aquaman of the DC Universe.
a new toy Hasbro presented an action figure of Namor, the villain from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ with a short description that reads: “The ruler of Talocan, an ancient civilization hidden deep in the ocean, Namor will stop at nothing to protect his people.“, which clarifies an important secret of the film.
In the comics, Namor lives in Atlantis, but in the film set inside Marvel Cinematic Universethis will be different, because as this toy describes it, the villain played by Tenoch Huerta comes from a submerged city by the sea, called Talocan, another reference to Mayan culture.
Talocan: The Atlantis of the MCU and its connection with mythology
Given that Tenoch Huerta looks quite Mexican in the first preview of the “Black Panther” sequel, it is easy to assume that this film will have a lot of Mayan representation, since from the first second of the preview you can see a pre- Hispanic pyramid and confirmation of the city of Talocan suggest the god Tlaloc of mythology.
Talocan sounds a lot like Tlalocan, known as the paradise ruled by Tlaloc, the god of rain, thunder and earthquakes, and while it’s not confirmed there’s a connection with this, it has piqued the curiosity of expectant MCU fans. at the first of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda forever’to see this new villain of the seas in action.
