The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported that Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravicius was killed on Saturday in the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol, which is the subject of its documentaries.

“While (he) was trying to leave Mariupol, Russian invaders killed Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravicius,” the ministry’s news agency said on Twitter on Sunday.
Lithuanian President Gitana Nauseda regretted his death in a statement. “In Lithuania and around the world, we have lost a well-known creator who, despite the threat, worked until the last moment in Russian-occupied Ukraine.
Kvedaravicius, 45, was best known for his documentary on the conflict zone. MariupolisWhich was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2016.
