The Alamo Drafthouse Staten Island Theater opens this month with a bar, museum and series of RZA Kung Fu themed screenings

Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain will open its fourth New York location on July 22 on Staten Island. The nine-screen, 893-seat cinema includes The Flying Guillotine, a kung-fu-themed collaboration with clan founder Wu-Tang RZA, which is part bar and part martial arts museum.

The gradual opening lasts until July 27 with a 25% discount on food and soft drinks with the increase in staff.

The theater follows the Austin-based chain’s locations in Yonkers (2013), Downtown Brooklyn (2016) and Lower Manhattan (2021), occupying 44,726 square feet of the Boulevard Mall at 2636 Hylan Blvd. “Our Staten Theater Island was a long time is coming and I think we have something that will truly surprise our New York guests, ”said Shelly Taylor, CEO of Alamo.

The Alamo yesterday announced a new theater in Boston and plans to open more locations, including in the Washington, St. Louis and Chicago area.

The network reproduces a mix of great publications, works of authorship and curated content. The Staten Island lineup also includes the RZA Saturday Shaolin Theater, a weekly evening series “inspired by RZA’s favorite martial arts,” the company said. The Alamo’s theaters often have eclectic features, such as exhibits of centuries-old waxes in Brooklyn and an archive of scripted film advertising plaques in Lower Manhattan as part of The Press Room Bar and Museum. Bars are becoming more and more popular as cinemas try to attract viewers, especially the younger ones.
