Thor: Love and thunder arrives in theaters today! If you haven’t seen it yet, get out of here and read it later! This post contains spoilers about an aspect of the film that plays a big part in the story.
There is a new character being introduced to the MCU in this movie, but I was not familiar with this character. I had no idea who he was and where their character came from. So, I dug a little to find out. If you’ve seen the movie, you know who I’m talking about.
One of the main storylines of the film revolves around Gorr, the God Butcher, who slaughters the gods in an act of revenge for the death of his young daughter. The film ends with Gorr reaching Eternity, which is like a cosmic wishing well. His original motivation for achieving Eternity was to wish all gods out of existence.
However, when she reaches him, she eventually ends up wanting her daughter to come back to life. His wish is granted and, before Gorr dies, Thor agrees to take care of the baby, and in the final scene the two rush into battle together to help an alien race. The little girl is known as “Love” and Thor is known as “Thunder”.
The two have a lovely relationship and has given birth to a new series of Thor’s adventures. Thor wields Mjolnir again, while Love uses Stormbreaker. She also calls her new guardian “Uncle Thor”.
So where does love come from? Not comics! I couldn’t find anything about this character in Marvel Comics and Thor neither has nor cares for any children in universe 616. Gorr also doesn’t have a baby girl named Love in the source material.
Hence, Love is a completely original character that was created for the MCU and the character is portrayed Chris Hemsworththe daughter in real life, named India Hemsworth. I have no doubt that Marvel has big plans for these two in the future.
