Aubrey Plaza falls into a life of crime in the trailer for EMILY THE CRIMINAL

Aubrey Plaza stars in a new upcoming drama called Emily the criminal, in which she plays a woman in difficult circumstances who falls into a life of crime to earn a decent living. I had the opportunity to see this film at Sundance and it was a solid film with a great Plaza performance.

Plaza plays Emily, a woman with a criminal record who is just trying to make it into the world. But, due to her past, it is difficult for her to find a decent job. In an effort to help make ends meet, she ends up taking a shady job as a “fictitious buyer,” which involves buying products with stolen credit cards and reselling them.

The film was directed by John Patton Ford and is also the protagonist Teo Rossi. Here is the synopsis:

Emily (Aubrey Plaza) is burdened with student debt and locked out of the normal job market due to a small criminal record. Desperate for income, she accepts a shady job as a “fictitious buyer”, purchasing goods with stolen credit cards provided by an attractive and charismatic broker named Youcef (Theo Rossi). Faced with a series of dead-end job interviews, Emily soon finds herself seduced by the quick money and illicit emotions of black market capitalism, and increasingly interested in her mentor Youcef. Together, they come up with a plan to take their business to the next level in Los Angeles, California.

Roadside Pictures will be released Emilia the Criminal in some US theaters starting August 12, 2022 and you can read my review here.
