Director James Cameron recently shared some information about his initial Avatar next step to 20th Century Fox and compared his concept of the sequel saga to the adaptation JRR Tolkien’S The Lord of the Rings. The director explained to Empire:
“What I said to the Fox regime at the time was, ‘I’ll do it, but we have to play a larger game here. I don’t just want to make a movie and make a movie and make a movie. I want to tell a bigger story. ‘ I said: ‘Imagine a series of novels like The Lord of the Rings they existed and we are adapting them. ‘ Now, in theory it was great, but then I had to create some fucking novels to adapt it from. “
And that explains why it took Cameron over a decade to make these films! He had to create the whole world and the stories for him Avatar sequels and then adapt them for the big screen. Cameron went on to talk about the pressure to replicate the insane success of the first film, saying:
“I had to think long and hard if I even wanted to do another one Avatar film, because it was a bit of ours to lose. When you’ve done something that has been so transcendent in terms of success, do you really want to try it again? There is a lot of pressure on it. I thought about it for two good years before concluding an agreement ”.
I really hope Cameron makes it and that these upcoming Avatar sequels end up being great and blockbuster movies. Only time will tell if audiences will be thrilled to return to the world of Pandora.
Talking with Empire in the next, world exclusive Avatar: The way of water problem, the director talked about the plans he has been preparing for over a decade.
The sequel is set more than a decade after the events of the first film. “He begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the problems that follow them, the lengths they go to protect each other, the battles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies they face.”
Avatar: The way of water stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stefano Lang, Curtis cliff, Joel David Moore, CCH Ponder, Edie Falco, Jemaine ClementeAnd Kate Winslet. It will be released in theaters on December 14, 2022.
