The studio will have to abide by the rules.
Disney will soon lose the rights to Mickey Mouse.
A funny mouse named Mickey is arguably one of the most important and popular characters in the studio. But very soon Disney will lose its main mascot.
The fact is that in 2024 the copyright on a work of art will expire. This means Mickey Mouse will soon be in the public domain, according to The Guardian.
For example, the mouse image can now be used for commercial purposes. However, expert Daniel Mayeda made an important change in a conversation with the publication. He noted that we are only talking about the character design of the 1928 model. And the versions created after that cannot be used. Otherwise, the film company reserves the right to sue for copyright infringement.
Mickey Mouse isn’t the only character Disney is going to lose. In early 2022, the studio’s copyright to Winnie the Pooh expired.
