Kiefer Sutherland is returning to the gritty streets of action cinema, this time collaborating with Al Pacino and rising star Always Anderson for the next thriller Father Joe.
The film, written and produced by Luca Bessonis set in 1990s Manhattan and promises a mix of faith, fury and fierce gangland conflict.
In Father Joe, Sutherland plays a man of faith who finds himself at war with Manhattan’s criminal underworld. Pacino takes on the role of a powerful mob boss whose empire clashes with Father Joe’s violent crusade for justice.
Anderson, known for her work in Peter Pan & Wendy and Black Widow, plays a young woman torn between the lure of danger and the hope of redemption under Joe’s guidance.
Directed by Barthelemy Grossmann (Arthur: Damn it), Father Joe filming will begin in mid-October. The project was developed by LB Production and EuropaCorp, the same powerhouse team behind Besson’s iconic action hits Taken with Liam Neeson, Lucia with Scarlett JohanssonAND Léon: The professionalthe 1994 classic he helped launch Natalie Portmanhis career.
Sutherland shared his excitement about joining the project, saying, “I’m a fan of Luc Besson’s return to ‘Subway.’ As a director and writer, he has a unique ability to weave drama and action without sacrificing either.”
“I’m so excited about this opportunity to work with him as writer of ‘Father Joe’ and director Barthélémy Grossmann. I can’t wait to get started.”
While Father Joe is preparing for production, Besson is fresh from the success of his latest film, Dracula: a love storya gothic horror love story starring Caleb Landry Jones AND Christoph Waltz.
With Father JoeIt feels like Besson is diving back into the kind of elegant, high-stakes storytelling that has defined his previous works.
