About the movie: In 1997, the National Basketball Association made history by founding its own Division of the WNBA. New York Liberty were the first team to form in this new league, and their lineup was supported by stars like Rebecca Lobo and Kim Hampton. Despite being extremely successful in their early years, they, along with other fiercely sporting and successful WNBA teams, faced a lot of resistance on their way to legitimacy, from homophobia to sexism. For both Liberty and the WNBA as a whole, these obstacles came to light as a new team entered the 2021 season.
Kleiman also produces the film with Julie Goldman, Christopher Clement, Carolyn Hepburn, Nicholas Mas and Misha Brown. Clara Wu Tsai serves as executive producer, while Samantha Bloom serves as co-producer.
