Signature Entertainment has released the first trailer for The astronautA new director’s science fiction thriller Jessica Varleywho is making his debut to the direction.
The story follows the astronaut Sam Walker, played by Kate Marawho survives his first space mission against all forecasts. After being alive in a perforated capsule that floats in depth off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Nasa was placed under a rigorous surveillance by the adoptive father, General William Harris, played by Laurence Fishburne.
Sam is brought to a high security structure hidden in the forests for rehabilitation and medical tests, where he reconneys with his husband and seems to be preparing for his next mission. But his healing takes a dark turning point when he begins to suspect that something otherworldly has followed his home.
The official synopsis reads: “Humanity is about to learn that we are not alone … When the astronaut Sam Walker returns from his first space mission, he miraculously found alive in a perforated capsule that floats deeply off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
“Wanted to be quarantine, the Father General adopted William Harris places Sam under Nasa’s surveillance in a high security house, isolated in the woods. Portrayed with her husband, Sam seems to re-accel and prepare for her next mission.
“When disturbing events begin around the property, it fears that something extraterrestrial followed her on Earth, and the agencies intended to protect her are endangering her life. Not even those close to her can trust.”
Next to Mara and Fishburne, the film also staries Gabriel Luna, Ivana MilicevicAND Macy Gray.
The astronaut is produced by Brad Fuller, Eric B. Fleischman, Chris AbernathyAND Cameron Fuller. While the premise is intriguing, the film has been welcomed so far with conflicting reactions, with critics who suggest that they do not get enough potential.
But, if you like claustrophobic science fiction thrillers that merge the psychological tension with the extraterrestrial mystery, this could be worth taking a look. The film is available in the United Kingdom now on VOD. No word on when it will be released in the United States.
