Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) has returned with a new political thriller and seems absolutely intense. His latest film, A house of dynamitestars Idris Elba AND Rebecca Ferguson In a story that takes place minute by minute while the United States government faces the unthinkable, a nuclear attack on American soil.
The film has just had his world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where he was shown in competition and earned an erect position of almost 13 minutes. Critics quickly weigh. Time out called him a “nuclear thriller [that] It will bring your levels of stress to Defcon 1 “, while Indiewire summarized it as” a film that will ruin your day. Please.”
Thr praised the soundtrack of the film, writing: “The strictly wounded tension is also maintained by the soundtrack of Volker Berttelmann, which begins with disturbing moans and continues to move.”
Bigelow was very open on inspiration behind a dynamite house and because this story seems so urgent:
“I grew up in an era when I was hiding under your school desk was considered the reference protocol to survive an atomic bomb. Now it seems absurd-and era-but at the time the threat seemed so immediate that these measures were taken seriously.
“Today, the danger has intensified only. Plus nations have enough nuclear weapons to end civilization in a few minutes. Yet, there is a sort of collective numbness – a silent normalization of the unplugable.
“How can we call this” defense “when the inevitable result is total destruction?”
“I wanted to make a film that confronts this paradox – to explore the madness of a world that lives under the constant shadow of annihilation, but rarely talks about it.”
Next to Elba and Ferguson, the cast of ensemble includes Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Jonah Hauer-King, Moses Ingram, Greta Lee, Jason Clarke, Malachi Beasley, Brian Tee, Brittany O’grady, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Willa Fitzgerald, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Kyle AllenAND Kaitlyn Dever.
A house of dynamite Hits Select Theater UK on October 3, expands globally on October 10th and arrives on Netflix on October 24th. If the first reactions are something to follow, Bigelow has offered a compelling and terrifying tour.
