Speaking to Fan Expo Chicago, Wilson shared that he personally presented the idea to Gunn, saying:
“I mentioned James several times, like ‘Hey, you have to do something with the plastic man. It’s one of my favorite DC characters and I loved him grow.”
The plastic man, aka Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, made his comic debut in 1941. Once a small scammer, the life of O’Brian changed after a bizarre accident in a chemical plant gave him the power to lengthen, transform and bend his body into wild and wild ways. Exchangeing crime with crime fighting, it became one of the most eccentric and fun heroes on the DC roster.
Wilson has always appreciated the character’s humor and added:
“He had an evil sense of humor. Plastic comics were very, very funny. It would have been fun to discover.”
While there are no official words of DC Studios on a plastic project, Wilson’s enthusiasm for the idea is contagious. Even if he does not land the role, he is all in.
“I would be a fan even if I wasn’t inside. I would like to see it … and play it.”
Wilson is already on board with what Gunn’s building in the DCU. Talking about Superman AND Nicholas HaultPortrait of Lex Luthor, he said:
“I thought that lexcorp or lithocorp or anything else in the film was fantastic, as James created it as a great, monolithic entity, was quite beautiful.”
