His foreign brother Anker, played by Nikolaj lie KaasHe is a recently released bank thief who tries to put together the position of their lost booty. The catch? Manfred is the only one who knows where he is buried, somewhere near their childhood home.
The trailer makes fun of all types of strange chaos while Anker tries to navigate in the fractured mind of his brother and their shared traumatic past. Of course, being a Jensen film, the story is full of bizarre characters, unusual humor and an unexpected plan that involves a psychiatrist and an improvised band destined to help Manfred to recover his memories.
The official synopsis of the film reads: “Anker and Manfred are two brothers who met following the prison period of Anker for a bank robbery. Since Manfred is the only one who knows where the booty is buried next to their socket, Anker has no other choice but to contend not only with the many psychological issues of his brother, but the legacy of the traumas that suffer during their childhood.
“Of course, being a film by Anders Thomas Jensen, the brothers are two members of a highly memorable gallery of misfits, unbelievers and many other unique people with their points and fixations, one of whom can involve the reformulation of the most famous pop band ever.”
The last Viking also stars Sofie Gråbøl, Lars Ranthe, Kardo Razzazi, Lars Brygmann, Nicolas BroAND Søren Malling. It is written and directed by Jensen, who is again merging the sincere dysfunction with an acute comedy.
The film will open in Denmark this October and will also be screened in TIFF, but there is still no release date in the United States. Based on the trailer, however, it seems that we are for another unforgettable performance by Mikkelsen and a movie that will be fun and touching.
