Elia Wood It will always be remembered as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the RingsBut his career has since shown that he has a taste for strange, darkness and unexpected.
His latest project, The toxic vindictorThe strip continues. The Cult Classic remake arrives in cinemas on August 29, with the wood that interprets Fritz, the deformed henchman and the brother of Kevin BaconThe bad wild wild.
At the Comic-Con of San Diego, Wood spoke with I9 of the bizarre character and why gravitates towards gender films that push the boundaries.
When he was asked to create a background for Fritz, Wood said that the pain of the character is written in his appearance and role.
“He was born physically deformed, probably taken.
“And so I think this has transformed it into, well,” I imagine I am the henchman “and I think he came out, not necessarily evil in him, but I think it was like, resentment raises dark actions.”
Wood added that Fritz’s heart is not entirely dark.
“It probably really wants to be loved. It is actually a kind of dessert, and it’s just misunderstood.”
This is not the only recent turning point of Wood in the territory of the villain. At the beginning of this year, he appeared in Osgood Perkins’ The monkey. When he confronts Fritz with Ted Hammerman, his character in that film, Wood did not hesitate.
“OH, [The Monkey’s] Ted Hammerman, without a doubt. By the way, hateful is a great word. Yes, Ted is terrible. Just a toxic male [who] Do you think you know better than all the others.
“He has all his perspective on what makes a great father, even if I don’t think he really knows what makes a great father. It was a real fun. I also love Osgood, and it was a joy to come and join that for a while.”
Wood has developed a model of apparition in the remakes of beloved cult titles, from 2012 Maniac TO The toxic vindictor. For him, it is not about nostalgia, but how the material is reinvented.
“The remakes are difficult, you know, and both of these films are connected in the sense that they have done something new of the material of origin rather than regurgging it in the same way.”
Indicated ManiacThe unusual style as a great attraction.
“My character does not really show up. It is mainly a poor film. I love the poor horror; it is really interesting. There is a great horror film POP of the 60s, Peek.
“He reminded me a little, how wonderful to take it and put you a kind of mentality of, or at least of the poor, the characters.”
Which in the end sold the wood The toxic vindictor He was director Macon Blairwith which he had previously worked I don’t feel at home in this world.
“I will do everything Macon asks me; I am a big fan of his work. He is a dear friend. And then I am asked to play a character like this in this universe was simply a real fun. I think it was clear that an approach to the original material that was very his own but had a total reverence for what Lloyd [Kaufman of Troma Entertainment] He had created. “
For wood, these choices are not part of a career strategy for corner the market on cult remakes. It is more instinctive.
“So it was circumstantial that these two things came to my life. I don’t know I’m looking for these things, but I love the genre and I will always be interested in doing something strange, fun and absurd.”
With The toxic vindictor Finally by trampling the theaters, the fans will see exactly how strange, fun and absurdly the new interpretation of Blair and Blair on the cult of worship is.
