The next animated series of Netflix Splinter Cell: Deathwatch He is reporting the invisible icon Sam Fisher, but not exactly the way the longtime fans could expect. Creator of the series Derek KolstadThe writer behind John Wick AND NobodyHe recently opened on his approach to the character and does not see Sam Fisher as operating operations.
Kolstad told Den di Geek:
“One of the things I like about Sam Fisher, John Wick and Hutch Mansell [from Nobody] It is that, yes, they are quite tough in what they do, but above all, they are not the best. They are beaten. “
That an interesting perspective that considers Fisher’s reputation as one of the most elite secret agents of the games, but Kolstad seems intent on making it more rooted and vulnerable.
This means that Deathwatch it could lean towards a smallest and more practical style similar to Splinter Cell: convictionrather than the approach purely guided by the shadow of the original trilogy.
In the first games, Fisher was a master of infiltration, based on high -tech gadgets and his iconic glasses for ghost night vision through missions without leaving a track.
Kolstad continued to explain:
“Look at the games and is incredibly skilled and at ease in technology, but sometimes a bullet or a blade or tear for some cable is your best defense line.”
That philosophy suggests a fisherman who is not invincible and this time the fights could be a little more brutal and desperate. But Kolstad believes that the heart of the character remains the same.
“I have always loved the world of Splinter Cell. I am a big fan of the army of one [stories] If you do it well. Still, even if he has had difficult decisions to make, it is only refreshing that Sam Fisher is a hero.
“He has moments of empathy and having to do this when both decisions are wrong, but one is a little less wrong at the cost of his soul and his personal life, but for the benefit of the rest of us.”
Splinter Cell: Deathwatch will be present Liev Schreiber As a voice of Sam Fisher, entering the role for some time played by Michael Ironside. The series made its first appearance at the Annecy Festival, in which the director Guillaume Dousse revealed some visual and toned inspirations for the show, citing Ghost in the Shell, Ozarkand even elements of Mission: Impossible.
Manufacturer Hugo Revon added:
“It was interesting to have this elderly character, not totally like the version of Tom Cruise but more realistic and more seasoned by life.”
The series will hit Netflix at the end of 2025, joining the growing list of platform video game adaptations such as Castlevania and the next Devil May Cry series. In the meantime, fans are still waiting for the elusive one Splinter Cell Remake, which Ubisoft made fun of years ago but did not provide significant updates.
So how do you feel for a Sam Fisher who is not the best in what he does?
