Because Lex Luthor hates so much Superman, according to James Gunn and Nicholas Hault

Lex Luthor’s revenge against Superman does not only concern jealousy, it is deeper, more existential and, second Superman star Nicholas Hault and director James Gunncomparable to today’s world.

In a recent interview with Fandango in Megacon Orlando, Hoult broke what really pushes Lex’s hatred to the steel man, saying:

“We are weak, and that’s what Superman shows us, that we are.”

Hault describes Lex as someone who built his empire on power, intelligence and belief that humanity could and should be his savior. But then Superman falls from the sky and suddenly Lex is not the most intelligent and admired man in the room.

The attention, the faith, the admiration for which Lex worked has disappeared in a flash. Hoult added:

“Suddenly this person took all that adoration that [Lex] he feels he deserves. “

They are not only Superman’s skills that infurian lex, is what it represents. His presence threatens the entire sense of self -esteem of Lex. If a divine alien can save the day, what is the point of everything that Lex has made?

Gunn, who is writing and directing the new Superman Film, interrupted with a modern analogy:

“I think Lex looks at Superman as many press artists look at the. He sees him as a threat to his sustenance and his inheritance.”

This lex frame not only as a bad guy, but as someone who looks at the world moves under his feet, where everything he appreciates and built is overcome by something he cannot control and has not asked. It is less megalomania, more existential terror. Something I can relate 100%to.

Gunn continued stressing that for Lex, Superman is not just an super -potent alien, it is an unavoided cultural phenomenon:

“He is a simple boy who wears a stupid costume that suddenly love, and every woman loves and all the things that [Lex] He takes care now to go to him. “

There is also a pragmatic side of the threat of lex. Hoult stressed that the challenge of making a human bad guy seem a real threat to an unstoppable alien. The answer lies in Lex’s brain, not good.

“Strategy and manipulation” are its weapons, not the fists or laser. That contrast, power vs. control, force vs. intellect, is where the tension in Superman will come from.

Hoult also clarified that he is just starting in the role.

“There is a lot that I want to do with lex.”

If this interpretation of the character hits as it seems, it will be interesting to see how his arc of history will take place beyond this first superman film.
