When the Marvel series Luna Knight He finally landed on Disney+, fans were presented Ethan HawkeThe disturbing and disturbing character Arthur Harrow as the main villain of the show. But that wasn’t the original plan.
According to the creator of the series Jeremy SlaterHarrow was more a plan B. The original villain was nothing more than Raoul Bushman, a brutal mercenary and one of the most iconic comics enemies of Moon Knight.
In a recent interview with Comicbook, Slater removed the curtain in the show development process and revealed because Bushman was ultimately left behind.
“In the end, [Marvel] He went in a different direction and the director put his team of writers together.
“You know when you come playing in a sandbox so big that you are … borrowing someone else’s toys with which to play for a short period of time and, in the end, they don’t belong to you. You know you enter, so it was not a surprise.”
Slater’s first vision for Bushman was not just a rooted mercenary, he had a mythological touch in mind. The idea was to give Bushman a supernatural update by transforming it into the vaatar of a different Egyptian God, who could compete with Khonshu. Slater said:
“The goal was if Marc Spector was Khonshu’s avatar, we would have taken Bushman and we would have made him the avatar of a different Egyptian God and let him out.”
It is not difficult to imagine the heavy and high level action in which the version of the show may have been relying. But a big obstacle looked down … Black Panther. More specifically, Killmonger.
“The problem in which we continued to come across was Black Panther had just come out and Michael B. Jordan was so damn good as Killmonger in that film, which throws such a big shade … that everything we wrote ended feeling a little derivative.”
The more the writers leaning on the configuration of Bushman-Contro-Marc Spector, the more he began to echo the dynamic of T’Challa/Killmonger, two ideological rivals fueled by gods, to squad the weight of their respective beliefs behind them.
So, rather than traveling a family ground, the team shot Arthur Harrow, a character with a lighter comic imprint, giving the writers more space to shape it in something original and disturbing. Instead of a brutal mercenary, we had a worship leader who channeled the judgment of Admiral with chilling calm.
It may not have been the original plan, but in the end the switch helped Luna Knight stand. However, it is difficult not to ask how it could have been that alternative version to Bushman.
