George RR Martin Addresses Delayed THE WINDS OF WINTER, Says “I’m Alive Now! I Sound Pretty Vital!”

I think a lot of fans have given up George R. R. Martin finishing his A Song of Ice and Fire saga. He is working, or not working, on his next book in the series, The winds of winterfor several years, and with his age, fans are already resigned to the fact that he will probably die before finishing it.

During a recent interview with THR, Martin was asked what fans are saying, and he addressed the delay, saying:

“Unfortunately I’m 13 years late. Every time I say it, I am [like]“How could I be 13 years late?” I don’t know, it happens one day at a time.

The scripture goes on to underline this The winds of winter remains his primary focus, saying:

“But this is still a priority. Many people are already writing obituaries for me. [They’re saying] “Oh, it will never end.” Maybe they’re right. I do not know. I’m alive now! It seems quite vital to me!”

I’m not convinced The winds of winter is a priority for Martin as he has a ton of other projects in the works for TV and other things, and it seems like the book has taken a backseat to those projects.

He previously said: “Writing was difficult, and although I produced some new pages on both THE WINDS OF WINTER (yes) and BLOOD & FIRE (the sequel to FIRE & BLOOD, the second part of my Targaryen story) , I would have liked it much more.

“My various TV projects took up most of those months. Some of them were enjoyable (DARK WINDS and THE HEDGE KNIGHT), most of them were not.”

Martin had previously remarked that “if I could change one thing about one of my books, I would finish them.”

In 2023, Martin said that he had only finished writing 1,100 pages and that it would be a long book. Once the book is finished, Martin will make a big announcement, but I don’t think many fans are expecting it.

It would be great if he actually finished the book!
