Director David Ayer he still hopes that one day his original cut will be made Suicide squad will see the light of day. He recently shared a fan-made poster for the film and noted:
“I hope my real film can be shared one day. I appreciate the continued support and interest.”
I have no idea if Warner Bros. and DC Studios will ever release Ayer’s version of the film. I would be very surprised if they did, but anything is possible!
When Ayer was previously asked about his biggest heartbreak in Hollywood, he explained it Suicide squad broke him: “Hollywood – I tell people – is like watching someone you love get fucked by someone you hate. The big one is Suicide squad. That shit destroyed me. This one kicked my ass.
Every time he talks about this experience he always explains how the studio screwed him over. He went on to tell how everything fell apart for the film:
«Come right away FuryRight? I had the city in my hands: I could have done anything, and I did anything, and [I] embark on this journey with [Suicide Squad]. And the same thing: authentic, truthful, we do all the tests, we really get into each other’s souls.
“Let’s create this amazing, collaborative thing, right? Then Dead Pool open, right? And they never tested Batman vs. Supermanso they expected a different result, and then they got hammered by all the critics. Then it was like, ‘Okay, now we’re going to turn David Ayer’s dark, soulful movie into a damn comedy.’”
Speaking previously about his original version of the film, the director said: “All I know is that my unseen film works much better than the studio release. The interest in my cut on display feels real and organic.
The director once said he would like a one-off “funeral screening” of the film to help him wrap up the story and move on.
He said: “This has been the hardest part of my career. I made a fantastic film. I made a fantastic film. I’ll put it on record. Someone wants to challenge it: come and look me in the eyes.
“To have something that I put so much love and heart into be taken away, redesigned… you know that Eric Andre meme where he shoots the guy and says, ‘Why did you do that?’ It was like that Suicide squad. “Why did you do it?” I didn’t.
He went on to talk about the criticism he received for the film, saying, “Every time a new film comes out in that space, it starts all over again. I get attacked for something I didn’t do.
“It’s pretty unfair and, ultimately, at this point, I understand, it’s corporate America. It is corporate IP. You know these are multi-billion dollar companies, but I think ripping the guts out of a director like that is pretty unfair.
Asked about the possibility of a one-off screening, Ayer said: “I would love a screening of the last rites. A funeral screening, you know, just getting the cast and crew together to show them what they actually accomplished. It would be fair to everyone.”
Do you think WB will ever release this thing?
I hope my real film can be shared one day. I appreciate the continued support and interest.
