A black and white version of Guillermo del Toro’S Alley of nightmares was already released on Hulu a couple of years ago, but the director recently shared that he is now working on a Alley of nightmares remaster and it will be an extended cut.
The director shared on Bluesky: “I’m remastering the black and white Alley of nightmares w an extended cut. Stay tuned.”
The director had already said what he said Nightmare Alley: a vision in darkness and light: “Even though we shot Nightmare Alley in color, we lit it as if it were black and white. You can see exactly the same level of design and we wanted to give viewers this special edge as an interpretation of the classic noir genre that the film is part of.”
Cinematographer Dan Laustsen explained: “When we designed and shot, we were always thinking about color and black and white. The classic lighting I used is a tribute to all the incredible masters of cinematography who inspired me.”
Alley of nightmares is a dark and visually stunning neo-noir thriller that delves into the depths of human greed, manipulation and moral decay. Set in the 1940s, the film follows Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper), a charismatic but morally ambiguous drifter who rises through the ranks of a seedy carnival by mastering the art of mentalism.
Collaborating with the charming and equally ambitious Molly Cahill (Rooney Mara), Stan uses his talent to swindle the wealthy elite. However, his arrogance leads him into a dangerous partnership with manipulative psychologist Dr. Lilith Ritter (Cate Blanchett), whose deceit and ambition push Stan towards a tragic downfall.
The film is also the protagonist Willem Dafoe, Tonini Collette, Holt McCallany, Ron Perlmann, Richard Jenkins, AND David Strathairn.
