Archaeologists have found a “lost” human species with an abnormally large skull that lived alongside homo sapiens 100,000 years ago. This ancient species, known as Juluren, meaning “big-headed people,” is thought to have lived in China between 300,000 and 50,000 years ago.

Scientists believe these humans had larger brains than any known hominin species, including modern humans. Homo julurensis likely hunted wild horses in small groups, made simple stone cutting tools, and processed animal skins to make clothing.
They may be relatives of Neanderthals and another ancient human ancestor, the Denisovans. But researchers say some remains make it clear that it was still a separate species called homo julurensis.
The most distinctive feature of these creatures is their unusually large skulls, which give julurens their name. Assembling the remains of the skull, researchers calculated its volume to be 1,700 ml, according to an article in the journal Nature Communications; This is even larger than the volume of the homo sapiens skull, which is 1,330 ml.
We previously wrote that traces dating back 1.5 million years were found in Africa. They reveal the secrets of human evolution.
