Warner Bros. Animation has released the first clip from its upcoming Middle-earth anime epic The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim.
In the clip we see King Helm’s daughter Hera challenge the evil Wulf to battle. Despite being asked not to commit, Wulf accepts and Hera pursues him.
Set 183 years before the events of the original film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim tells the “fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.
“A sudden attack by Wulf, a cunning and ruthless Dunland lord seeking revenge for his father’s death, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient hold of Hornburg, a mighty fortress which will later become reality.” known as Helm’s Deep.
“Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, Helm’s daughter, must find the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy bent on their total destruction.”
The original anime film from New Line Cinema The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim comes from the award-winning director Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus AND Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series).
Screenwriter Filippa Boyensthat he wrote Peter Jackson’s live-action film, said: “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim it works for anime because it is character-driven and contained within its world, two things that work beautifully with Japanese storytelling, and there is no better storyteller in this medium than Kenji Kamiyama.
The rest of the voice cast includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, the king of Rohan, Gaia Saggia like Héra of Rohan, Luca Pasqualino as Wulf, Lorraine Ashbourne (from Netflix Bridgerton), Yazdan Qafouri (I came), Benjamin Wainwright (BBC One World on fire), Laurence Ubong Williams (Brings), Shaun Dooley (from Netflix The witcher), Michael Wildmann (Presentations Fast and the Furious: Hobbs & Shaw), Jude Akuwudike (Beasts without a nation), Bilal Hasna (BBC Sparks), AND Janine Duvitski (by ITV Benidorm).
With Kamiyama at the helm, the original film is produced by Boyens, from the writing team behind it The Lord of the Rings AND The Hobbit Trilogies, opposite Jason DeMarco AND Joseph Chouwhich, in addition to their numerous separate animation projects, they have collaborated on Blade Runner: Black Lotus series.
The executive producers are Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood AND Toby Emmerich.
The screenplay is by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews,Phoebe GittinsAND Arty Papageorgiouwith a story by Addiss & Matthews and Boyens, based on the characters created by JRR Tolkien.
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will be released theatrically worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 13, 2024 and internationally on December 11, 2024.
