David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, admits that JOKER 2 was a ‘disappointment’

Director Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie À Deux it fell flat on its face at the box office and most critics and fans were disappointed with how the film turned out. The film is also bombing on VOD. There’s simply no real interest in the film.

During a recent call between Warner Bros. Discovery executives and investors, the box office performance of the Joker sequel and how it might weigh on the company’s performance in the next quarter was discussed.

It is at this point that the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav admitted that the film was a disappointment, saying: “Inconsistency also remains a problem at our film studio, as reinforced recently by the disappointing results of Joker 2.”

Warner Bros. Discovery is going through some financial troubles right now, then Joker 2 bombing at the box office didn’t help matters much, especially since they spent over $200 million on the production, which is ridiculous for the type of movie this became.

Executives noted that they will begin to focus more intently on core franchises and reduce the number of new releases.

Jeff Goldstein,Warner Bros.’ The president of Domestic Distribution had previously spoken out about the film’s failure, saying: “The film didn’t reach the audience the way we wanted it to.”

He went on to say that the film was “a deeper dive into mental illness”, and then argued that some of his core male viewers struggled to connect with Lady Gaga.

Seems like the only person who liked it Joker 2 era Quentin Tarantinowho said it was a “‘Fuck you’ to ‘comic book geeks’ and ‘Hollywood.'” He said:

“The Joker directed the movie. The whole concept, even him spending the studio’s money – he’s spending it like the Joker would spend it, okay?

“And then his big surprise gift – haha! – the jack-in-the-box, when he offers you his hand for a handshake and you get a 10,000 volt buzzer blasting you – they’re the comic book geeks.

“He’s telling all of them fuck off. He’s saying “fuck you” to the movie audience. He’s saying “fuck Hollywood.” He’s saying “fuck you” to anyone who owns shares of DC and Warner Brothers […] And Todd Phillips is the Joker. A Joker movie, okay, that’s what it is. He’s the Joker.”

I like this interpretation of the film.
