Matthew Lillard Says SCREAM Franchise Is in a ‘Good Place’ But Explains Franchise Has Become ‘Too Violent’

Original Cry star Matthew Lillard recently shared his thoughts on the state of the Cry franchising. While he believes the series is well underway, he also explains that it is the last Cry the film was too violent.

When asked about the franchise in an interview with GamesRadar+, the actor said: “I think it’s in a good place. I think [the movie being] being back in the hands of Kevin Williamson is fantastic.

“I love what [Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin] they were doing before. nothing against them. In fact, I thought they were going down a really exciting path.

Then he explained: “I thought the movie was too violent. I think 6 it was like… I don’t think Ghostface ever needs a gun. I think the films try to repeat what we did in the first film in many ways.

“Like, a manic monologue at the end. It’s really hard to do. I hope Kevin takes it in a completely new, brave and exciting direction so that we can find different colors and joys.

Yes, I agree with that. Ghostface never needed the rifle. This took the franchise to a silly level and kind of took the fun out of the franchise.

Previously speaking about his character Stu Macher, Lillard believes his character is also alive and has spoken about a potential return to the world Cry saga.

He said, “Stu is definitely alive, right? My character Stu is definitely alive. I would love it. If it made sense for the franchise. If Kevin [Williamson] I liked it. Then sure. Obviously.”

I would love to see Stu make a return to the franchise, but I doubt that’s something we’ll see because I don’t think Williamson will go that far in providing fan service. But who knows!

That new movie will bring Neve Campbell Sidney Prescott is back in the fold, as was previously reported Screams 7 “will have two main plots, one about Sid and his neighborhood friends, and the second about Taylor, Sid’s teenage daughter (could be a code name) and her friends. Each of them will have to deal with Ghostface.”

Sid and Gale will reportedly face some sort of Ghostface cult.
