The Lego Group and Universal Pictures have teamed up to create three new live-action LEGO films from the directors Jake Kasdan (Jumanji franchising, Bad teacher), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) AND Joe Cornish (Attack the block).
Plot details for the three untitled films have yet to be revealed, but all three films will be produced by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians of the Lego Group.
Kasdan will direct from a script written by Andrea Mogel AND Jarrad Paolo (The D train, The Grinder). The project is based on an original idea and an earlier draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows (The retreat, Animal friends). Kasdan will also produce the film together with Melvin Mar under the banner of their detective agency.
Jenkins will direct the film from a script he collaborated on Geoff Johnscoming together after co-writing Wonder Woman 1984 (with Dave Callaham). Jenkins will produce the film through his Wicious Pictures.
Cornish will rewrite to direct the third film. Heather Anne Campbell (Rick and Morty, The fist man) wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay based on a treatment by Simon Rich (Man looking for woman, Miracle workers).
Universal executive vice president of production development Matt Reilly and director of production development Jacqueline Garell will oversee these projects for the studio.
The three untitled films will be produced as part of Universal’s ongoing partnership with Lego, which began more than a decade ago with the Lego Jurassic World product line and video games (which has spawned numerous television projects).
The expansion of the Lego brand into feature films began in 2014 with The LEGO Movie, which developed into a $1 billion franchise, including subsequent titles The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Ninjago MovieAND The Lego Movie 2: The second part.
