Amazon’s GOD OF WAR series will start from scratch after completing several scripts

Amazon has developed a live-action series adaptation of the hit ancient mythology-themed video game God of war. Several scripts were written for the series, but the streaming service axed the current iteration of the project.

Variety reports that the God of war The TV series will now start from scratch, with a showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby AND Marco Fergus they all left the project.

As scripts for the series were arriving, Amazon and Sony Pictures Television decided they wanted to take it in a different creative direction.

Now they’re looking for a new showrunner and setting up a new writers’ room. Santa Monica studio Cory Barlog AND Yumi YangPlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash AND Carter Swanand Vertigo Roy Lee they are all still attached to the project.

Speaking previously about the series, Amazon Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said: “At the heart of it all is this story of fathers, sons and families, set in this giant epic landscape.

“So what, Rafe? [Judkins] and Marco [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] that we came up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is incredibly faithful to the source material, and also compelling in its own right.

“If you’ve never played the game, you’re going to fall in love with the show and feel really invited. So we think it’s going to be great.”

In the initial press release, Amazon described their vision for the adaptation: “The series follows Kratos, the god of war, who, after exile from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, forever hangs up his weapons in the kingdom Norse of Midgard.

“When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak – his wife’s dying wish.

“Kratos soon realizes that the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one that will test the bonds between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”

This series could be a great series. As a fan of the franchise, I just want to see the creative team capture the epicness and scope of the game.
