James Gunn recently shared a first look at Krypto the Superdog, who will appear in his next DC movie Supermanand not everyone is convinced by the dog’s design.
This version of Krypto was heavily inspired by Gunn’s dog, Ozu, and some fans have let it be known that the canine character will not be depicted as a white labrador.
Although Krypto is often drawn like a Lab or a Golden Retriever in the comics, he has resembled other dog breeds over the years. Then there’s the fact that Krypto is ultimately an alien.
Gunn he replied to criticism, saying: “No. Krypto is historically a generic white dog, sometimes also a Lab, White Shepherd, Husky, or Dalmatian. But obviously he’s an alien, so it wouldn’t necessarily be one of those things.”
Gunn also confirmed that Krypto doesn’t talk, but only barks. Personally I like the design of Krypto!
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman stars David Corenswet in the role of Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicola Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaioas Eva Teschmacher; AND Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
