James Gunn recently offered an update on its next slate of DCU projects, which is being called DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and it’s not guaranteed that all of these projects will come to fruition. The future of these projects all depends on the quality of the scripts.
In response to an IGN article titled “James Gunn Ensures Every DCU Project Announced Will Still Be Coming Despite Lack of Updates,” Gunn chimed in on Threads saying:
“Just to clarify, I said that everything we originally announced was still in development, not that it was still on the way. It all depends on the scripts! We will never put a half-baked script into production just because it’s been announced.”
It makes me happy to know that Gunn and his team aren’t releasing a DC movie just for the sake of releasing it. Gunn wants complete, quality scripts for these projects before they go into production. This is something Marvel Studios hasn’t done in the past, and this approach hasn’t served them well in recent years.
Gunn is developing films the right way, the way these films should be developed, and as I’ve always said, it always starts with a strong story and script.
Even though DC has had a tough time with their movies, I’m rooting for Gunn and hope he’s able to pull through and make some great DC movies and shows!
Gunn and producer Peter Safran’s new series of superhero films and shows were first revealed in early 2023. It will kick off this December with the animated series Commando of creaturesbefore 2025 Superman marks the franchise’s first outing on the big screen.
Other titles announced include The brave and the bolda new Batman movie from director It Andy Muschietti, Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowhero House of the Dragon‘S Milly AlcockAND Peacemaker Season 2.
The list also included a Swamp thing movie with James Mangold direct, a Teen Titans movie ea Wonder Woman Spin-off TV show called Paradise lost. Then there’s the Lanterns series.
