Kevin Smith’s DOGMA will return to theaters and be released on Blu-ray

Kevin Smith recently announced that his 1999 religious comedy Dogma it will have a theatrical re-release and will also arrive on Blu-ray.

Smith says he will take a print of the film on tour next year, after it was rescued from its years-long limbo, and that its new owners immediately contacted Smith about making new Blu-rays and re-releasing the film in 2025. .

It was not revealed who acquired the rights to the film. Smith told That Hashtag Show in a recent interview:

“The film was bought by the guy who had owned it for years and stuff like that. We met the company that bought it a couple of months ago. They said, ‘Would you be interested in rereleasing it and taking it on the road like you do with your films?’ I said, “100%, are you kidding me?” Going on tour for a movie that I know people like, and it’s sentimental and nostalgic? We’ll clean it up.’”

Dogma was Smith’s fourth feature film and was a satirical fantasy comedy that explores themes of faith, religion and morality through irreverent humor.

The story follows two fallen angels, Loki (Matt Damon) and Bartleby (Ben Affleck), who are banished from Paradise and try to return by exploiting a gap in Catholic dogma. If they succeed, however, they will obliterate the entire existence.

To stop them, a group of unlikely heroes gathers, including a reluctant abortion clinic worker named Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), who is the last scion of the lineage of Christ, and two prophets, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith).

Its controversial subject matter, especially regarding Catholicism, sparked debate but cemented its place as a cult classic.
