Scream! Studios has released the first clip for its crazy new horror comedy Frankie Freako. It sees a group of characters travel to Freak World and is a fun mix of live-action and puppet work. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out here!
The film is inspired by Freddie Freaker’s party line. In the story, “Workaholic Yuppie Conor Sweeney (protagonist of The publisher, Father’s Day) has a dilemma: no one in his life respects him! Not his boss, not his colleagues, not even his wife Kristina, who thinks he’s an uptight ‘square!’”
“Conor sees no way out of this existential rut until one night, channel surfing, he comes across a bizarre advertisement for a party hotline hosted by a strange dancing goblin: FRANKIE FREAKO. Conor is enchanted by Frankie’s promises of wild and bizarre adventures, just a phone call away: could this be the recipe to liven up his tasteless life?
“Home alone for the weekend, Conor works up the courage to dial Frankie Freako’s hotline. As soon as the call comes in, he unleashes CHAOS in his white-collar world, freeing Frankie and his troublemaking friends from their dimensional prison.
“It’s a race against time as Conor must defeat the rowdy villains and clean up their trail of destruction before Kristina returns from her journey, all while embarking on an unexpected journey of self-discovery.”
The film is described as a quirky special effects-driven horror-comedy in the style of Gremlins 2 AND Ghoulies 3: The Ghoulies go to college.
The original Freddie Freaker (sometimes known as Freddy Freaker) was a character created in 1987 by LA Toys. He appeared in commercials typically seen on MTV advertising its “1-900-490-FREAK” hotline which was aimed at teenagers.
Callers would be able to listen to recordings with strange sounds, jokes, etc. Or create your own rap songs.
The film will be released in theaters on October 4. Enjoy the clip!
