WandaVision AND Agatha for life artistic director Jac Schaeffer has left fans wondering a lot about the leading ladies of his two shows. As we begin to unravel the mysteries of Agatha and the connections between the two powerful sorcerers, Schaeffer is giving us some behind-the-scenes information to ponder that ties the two shows together.
Schaeffer recently sat down with The Wrap to discuss the premiere of Agateand approached the decision to open the series as a crime thriller, paying homage and drawing a striking resemblance to Easttown Sea. It turns out that the idea was first floated by Schaeffer while working on WandaVisionkeeping the series moving from one television genre to another episode after episode.
“It was supposed to be the eighth episode of ‘WandaVision,’ it was supposed to be like an episode of ‘CSI,’ and it was supposed to solve Pietro’s murder. [Evans Peters’ Ralph Bohner]. It was him on the slab. It was [Wanda’s] way, kind of, to kind of get out of what was going on, and for her to, like, fully understand what’s going on. And I mean, that was a really cool idea.”
He continued:
“But once we got into the writers’ room and started putting it all together, it was clear that we had to be disciplined in our approach to ‘WandaVision.’ Even in the beginning, we had a lot of different sitcoms. We had workplace sitcoms and we took a quick look at socially political sitcoms and were like, ‘No, these are just ambitious family sitcoms.'”
In the interview, Schaeffer was also asked about actress Wanda Maximoff Elizabeth OlsenScarlet Witch’s future. Schaeffer said she wasn’t able to talk about it, but shared her hopes to see the character back on screen (she’s rumored to be working on a planned solo outing for the character).
“I think it’s safe to say that everyone wants it. She’s incredible. The character is incredible, Lizzie is incredible, yeah. Everyone wants her. But, yeah, I can’t – I literally don’t know anything, and I can’t talk about anything beyond the show.”
