Ryan Cooglerwho is best known for directing great films starring Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, I believe, Black Panther 1 and 2), continues her streak with her upcoming mysterious period vampire film, which she has kept very secret. Photos from the filming of the movie in the spring surfaced, giving us our first look at Jordan and the set, which confirms that the story is set in the 1930s.
Now, new rumors have emerged that claim to reveal the title of the film, as well as its first details. According to a reliable industry scooper Daniel Ricci (via CBM), the film is titled Sinners. He also gave fans the first logline, and it seems to confirm that the previous rumor that star Jordan will play twin brothers was correct. It reads:
“In an attempt to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start over, only to discover that an even greater evil is ready to greet them.”
When this project was first announced, it was said to be so top secret that “executives and buyers were forced to make a pilgrimage to the Beverly Hills offices of WME, the agency that represents Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan, to get a look at the script,” but some details have since leaked out.
The film was initially described as a “genre film” with a “period element to the story,” and we would later find out that it would actually be set in the Jim Crow-era South and could involve both vampires and Southern supernatural traditions. It definitely has a Lovecraftian feel, and I like that.
Hailee Steinfeld (Hawk Eye, Dickinson) has recently signed on for an undisclosed role, joining previously announced cast members Wunmi Mosaic, Delroy Lindo AND Jack O’Connell.
Mosaku is said to be playing Jordan’s love interest (which twin is yet to be revealed), while O’Connell is believed to have been cast as a “racist antagonist.”
Coogler also wrote the script and is on board as lead producer alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.
Coogler is also currently working on the Marvel TV project Eyes of Wakandaand in the end he will do the third Black Panther film. I can’t wait to see this film and all the other projects he has in mind.
