I really wish I could be excited about the next live-action Transformers AND GI Joe crossover movie, but the live-action franchise is such a mess and has developed so poorly in recent years that I don’t expect it to work.
During an interview with Collider, the producer of the franchise Lorenzo Bonaventura They have provided an update on the film and are trying to find out the story and characters that will be included in it.
He said: “The next live-action movie is going to be a crossover. What’s going to be particularly impacted by that is that we now know what these robots are capable of emotionally in a way. So we’re going to have to figure out how to create that space, that we can afford it, and create a story that can take better advantage of that.
“So one of the things that I’m particularly interested in doing, and we’re still in the development phase so nothing is set in stone yet, but I think we need to do more on the robot side in live action now because that’s the only way to really get inside them.”
Di Bonaventura went on to explain the differences between previous Transformers films and this upcoming crossover, and said that it was necessary to narrow down the characters.
He explained: “Instead of reacting to humans or reacting to the human storyline, what their drive is, it has to be part of that story now. So it’s going to be tricky because now the hardest thing about a lot of franchise movies is how many characters there are, and the more characters you try to manage, the harder it is to make a bunch of really good ones.
“You have to keep moving forward, keep it smaller, keep it smaller. So we’ll be in that process for a while, where we’ll start with a bunch of Joes and a bunch of Transformers and I’ll say, normal humans, and then you do this.
“That’s kind of where we are now, trying to get the bigger thing right. The trick here, as we were talking about here, in trying to find that tone and that balance is like, ‘Well, how much do you want Joes? How much do you want Transformers?'”
I just wish they would scrap everything they’ve done and start over with both franchises before merging them. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and the studios have done everything wrong, and they really need to bring in talent that can make smart creative decisions.
My friend Derek Connollythe author of the Jurassic World movies and Detective Pikachu has been hired by Paramount Pictures and Hasbro to write the next Transformers/GI Joe crossover movie.
It was previously reported that the film will “pit the good guys, the disguised robot Autobots and the heroic Joes, against their arch-enemies, the dastardly Decepticons and the devious terrorist organization Cobra.”
The World of Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Fury) will star in the film, but it is not yet known who he will play.
Producer Lorenzo Bonaventura He’s already admitted that he has no plans in place for the film, so… good luck.
