Elizabeth Olsen had a nice run playing Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, in the MCU. They gave her a strong and interesting story arc that seemingly ended with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
But this is Marvel, so bringing her back to continue her story is definitely not out of the question. There have been reports of her returning for a Scarlet Witch solo movie, and even a possible appearance in the upcoming Vision series.
The question is, does Olson really want to return to the role? She previously said she’s ready to move beyond the character, saying, “I don’t want to… it’s not that I don’t want to be associated with just this character. But I really feel like I need to rebuild other parts to rebalance.
“I would love to make movies right now. And I hope some of them come to fruition in the way that I feel like they can. But yeah, it’s something I need. I just need more characters in my life. There’s no longevity in a character.”
Olsen was also asked if she missed playing Wanda in the MCU, to which she replied, “No, I don’t. I think it’s been almost 10 years since I’ve played her. And I’ve loved it. And I think the reason I don’t call Kevin Feige every day with ideas is because I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to do. I think ‘WandaVision’ was a really amazing opportunity.
“If someone told me I was fired from Marvel movies, I would be proud of what we did. And I’m just trying to figure out how to load up other movies and characters so that it becomes less Marvel-centric than all of this.”
But now his tone has changed and he says he would be happy to return. During an interview with FM104, he said:
“It’s a character that I love to come back to when there’s a way to use it well, and I think I was lucky that when I first started out I was used well. I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there… if there’s a good way to use it I’m always happy to come back.”
I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of Olson in the MCU. She’ll be back at some point, and it’ll be fun to see how they continue her journey.
