Here’s a cool new lightsaber toy that features something we’ve never seen before in a lightsaber toy… an automatic blade that retracts and extends.
This one is from the toy company Goliath and is called the Power Saber. This is not an official Star Wars licensed lightsaber, but was originally made by Hasbro at some point.
Power Saber inventor Yair Shilo was actually developing the idea with Hasbro, but when that deal fell through, he secured the patent and brought it to Goliath.
Hasbro said in a statement: “We greatly value our partnerships with inventors who bring us their ideas for toys and games. For a variety of reasons, we were unable to move forward with this particular concept.”
The toy’s description reads: “Power Saber is the world’s first fully extendable and retractable lightsaber. With motion-based sound effects, flashes when colliding, and an LED in the hilt, this lightsaber offers the most realistic experience.
“Extend the saber to 35”/90 cm and prepare for battle! After battle, the Power Saber can be displayed on the included stand or carried with the belt clip.
“This saber is suitable for children aged 6 and up and is recommended for all fans. Available in red and green, choose your faction! Requires 4 AA batteries (not included).”
