THE BURBS to Get Adaptation from Seth MacFarlane and Keke Palmer for Peacock

The classic horror comedy from 1989 The suburbs is getting a series adaptation from Peacock and is in development by the producer Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, The Orville)writer Celeste Hughey (Dead to Me, High Fidelity), AND Keke Palmer is set to star.

The official synopsis of the series reads: “Set in today’s suburbs, The suburbs follows a young couple who return to the husband’s childhood home.

“Their world is turned upside down when new neighbors move in next door, exposing old cul-de-sac secrets, and deadly new threats shatter the illusion of their quiet neighborhood.”

The series will be filmed at Universal Studios, just like the movie. Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment will produce the film alongside Dana Olsen, who wrote the original film.

The original movie is one of my all-time favorites! It’s a movie I watch often because it’s so funny! I hope this series captures the spirit of the movie, which starred Tom Hanks’ World, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Rick DucomunAND My Friend Corey Feldman.

In the film, Ray Peterson (Hanks), an ordinary suburbanite, becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth about his mysterious new neighbors, the Klopeks.

Convinced that the Klopeks are hiding something sinister, Ray, along with his eccentric neighbors Art and Mark, set out to investigate their strange activities. As their paranoia grows, their clumsy attempts to uncover evidence lead to increasingly absurd and chaotic situations.

It’s a shame that director Joe Dante is not involved in the project of this series.
