Thomas Jane played Frank Castle in the 2004 version of The Punisherand he was fantastic in that role. I always thought Jane was fantastic as this ultra-violent vigilante, and it’s a shame he never got the opportunity to play that character again.
There were rumors that he might appear as The Punisher in Deadpool & Wolverine, but that didn’t happen and he was apparently never even approached for the role.
During an interview with The Direct, he was asked about it and he stated that he had never been contacted about a possible return.
Jane also shared her thoughts on Jon BernthalFrank Castle’s version, which was introduced in Daredevil series and is coming back for Daredevil Reborn.
Jane said: “I like it [Jon] Bernthal’s Punisher. I think, you know, for me it’s always been a little forced. Frank Castle is supposed to be an Italian-American. I’m not. I’m an Irish-American.
“So for me, I had to dye my hair and kind of take on a character, but Bernthal carries it so well, so I think they should stick with him.”
I think Bernthal is perfect for the role of Frank Castle. The casting is perfect, but I still loved what Jane did with the character.
While Jane admits that his Punisher days are doing him in, he would be interested in going up against Bernthal’s Frank Castle as a villain. When asked, he said, “Hey, that would be cool. I like that.”
