Ryan Reynolds Explains His DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE Credits Tribute to Rob Delaney’s Late Son

My name is Ryan Reynolds. has become synonymous with the name Deadpool and was able to take many liberties in making the three films starring the Merc with a Mouth.

Usually these liberties take the form of off-the-cuff jokes, but there’s one you might have missed that’s actually really sweet.

Reynolds posted on his Instagram this week that he has secured Deadpool and Wolverine paid tribute to his co-star’s late son Rob Delaneyespecially since Reynolds always regretted not doing so in PersonagesDelaney’s son, Henry, died of a brain tumor in February 2018, just months before the release of the first Dead Pool followed. Henry was only two years old.

Reynolds wrote about his co-star, who plays Wade Wilson’s friend Peter, in Personages AND Deadpool and Wolverine:

“Rob Delaney is much more than some people give him credit for. He is one of the most subversively funny people I know. He is a beautiful, acerbic, vulnerable writer.

“If you read the credits for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ you might notice a title that says ‘For Henry Delaney. ‘ Henry was Rob’s son. And Rob lost his baby to a brain tumor in 2018. Right when we finished ‘Deadpool 2.'”

“I’ve always busted my ass because I didn’t put a tribute to Henry in the credits of [‘Deadpool 2’]. On the bright side, more and more people are seeing Henry’s name in the credits of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ And finally, father and son are sharing the same screen.”

Reynolds then backed Delaney’s 2022 memoir A heart that workscalling it “an incredible piece of writing that explores the kaleidoscopic colors of emotion revealed by Henry’s passing.” She added that the book is “an unfiltered, angry, loving, sad, and hilarious (yes, HILARIOUS) look at grief.”

“I’m lucky to know Rob,” Reynolds concluded. “And I’m lucky to have friends who are willing to put themselves out there to make others feel less alone.”

Peter of Delaney is back in Deadpool and Wolverine and became even more of a fan favorite when the character adopted his superhero persona, Peter Pool. The actor told Digital Spy that returning as Peter for a second time “felt different.”

“They didn’t teach me what to say here. It felt different. It felt bigger, for sure,” he said. “I mean, it still felt controlled, and you could hear Ryan’s authorial voice moving through it, and it felt pure, but yeah, it felt bigger,” he noted.

Deadpool and Wolverine is now playing in theaters nationwide. Read Reynolds’ full tribute to Delaney in the Instagram post below.
