Michael Keaton Says On Cancelled BATGIRL Movie: “I Didn’t Care One Way Or The Other. Big, Fun, Big Check”

michelle keaton has had a major comeback as Batman in recent years. After playing the iconic superhero in 1989 and 1992 in Batman AND Batman Returnsand being named one of the best to play the role, Keaton returned for the big DC movie The Flash last year, but he had also been cast in a couple of other projects.

Keaton shot scenes for both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomwhich practically collapsed with the sale of Warner Bros. and the change of hands of DC, and Bat-girlwhich was famously rejected by WB.

He donned the cape and cowl again for each of these projects, but was left without a finished product, and many fans were disappointed. But what did Keaton think of the whole thing? Not too bad, apparently.

During a recent interview with GQ magazine, the actor revealed that he wasn’t too upset when Warner Bros. canceled the release of Bat-girlin which the actor reprised his iconic role as Batman alongside Grace Leslie in the title role.

The studio shelved the film in August 2022 in a cost-cutting move. The $90 million budget film had already been shot and in post-production when the decision was made, which came as a shock to the industry. It was widely reported that a tax incentive was the driving force behind the decision to kill Bat-girl.

When Keaton was asked if he was disappointed that the film was canceled, he replied, “No, I didn’t care one way or the other. A big, funny, nice check.” GQ noted that Keaton was also “rubbing his fingers in the universal gesture for ‘moolah.'”

“I like those guys. They’re good guys,” she added softly about the Batgirl directors. Adil El Arbi AND Billall Fallah. “I’m rooting for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt really bad, and that made me feel bad, too. Me? I’m fine.”

Not surprisingly, the failure to distribute this film was not a big deal to Keaton. He was not counting on its success for his career in any way. But it would have been fun to see him on stage again. He was great in The Flashand I hope to see him again one day as Bruce Wayne.
