Anna Kendrick makes his directorial debut with the film Woman of the momentbased on the chilling true story of the “Dating Game Killer,” Rodney Alcala, who appeared on the popular quiz show during his killing spree.
Kendrick plays Cheryl Bradshaw in the film, who has appeared on The Dating Game in front of Alcala, and joins her Daniel Zovatto, Nicoletta Robinson, Tony Hale, actressAND My Girl Kelley.
The film’s synopsis reads: “In the 1970s, Rodney Alcala went on a killing spree, luring women by posing as a photographer looking for models.
“Although he was already a registered sex offender and recently released from prison, he appeared infamously on The Dating Gamea show that featured a series of three bachelors each week, hidden from view while a woman asked them funny questions before choosing a winner to go on an all-expenses-paid trip…
“As this confrontation serves as the backbone of the film, we are transported back and forth in time, exploring the Alcala murders, with a performance by Daniel Zovatto that captures the disturbing arrogance of a man who knows he is operating in a world too warped to catch him out.”
Woman of the moment is directed by Kendrick from a screenplay written by Ian MacAllister McDonaldThe film debuted at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival and VVS Films will debut Woman of the moment in Canadian theaters later this fall.
There’s no firm US release date yet, but it looks so good I imagine we’ll see it soon. Watch the trailer below:
