Madman Films has released a trailer for its upcoming coming-of-age film set in New Zealand We were dangerous.
The film is set in New Zealand in 1954 and the story follows Nellie and Daisy as they attempt to escape from a home for delinquent girls. When they are caught, they are transferred to another facility on a remote island.
It is explained that the “duo becomes a trio when wealthy Lou joins them and life on the island takes shape under the leadership of the devout Matron. The trio rails against the system, doubting the benevolence of the Bible and taking refuge in their blossoming friendship.
“It’s hard to reform girls who don’t believe they need it. A sense of doom creeps in when experimental forms of punishment occur in the dead of night. Nellie and Daisy plan a rebellion, but then find themselves at odds with Lou, who’s afraid of breaking the rules.”
The film was directed by Josephine Stewart-Te Whiuwho makes his directorial debut. It stars Erana James, Rhyme Te Wiata, Natalie MorrisAND Manaia Hall.
The film is described as “a touching tale of friendship and rebellion that deftly balances humor and the joy of youth.”
Madman Films will release the film in New Zealand on August 22, 2024.
