DC Studios is reportedly developing a DEADMAN animated series

According to a report circulating on the Internet, DC Studios is developing an animated series centered around the character of Boston Brand, aka Deadman.

The news was reported by Nexus Point News, who claim it is in the early stages of development. However, the site also notes that there are no writers or scripts attached at this time, and that the show has not yet received an official green light.

There was a Dark Justice League project previously in progress with the director of M3GAN Gerard Johnstone developing it. Deadman would have been part of a roster that also included Swamp Thing, Constantine and Zatanna. The World of JJ Abrams was producing the film.

In a previous interview with Screen Rant, the director spoke about those plans, saying, “I had a lot of conversations and discussions with the guys because they were like, ‘Constantine is the main character.’ And I was like, ‘No, Constantine is the coolest character.

“But Zatanna is really the main character. ‘Cause she’s discovering her magical powers for the first time. But it was fun, man. The characters all went to hell to get Zatanna’s father.”

Johnstone’s script was only halfway through when the studio decided to scrap it. Johnstone continued: “I think it was a difficult time for DC. It was like Justice League came out, it didn’t do what they wanted.

“Suicide Squad didn’t do what it wanted to do. And so I was just told that they don’t want to spend money on another new movie with a bunch of characters that nobody’s ever heard of, and I get that. It was a shame.”

Deadman was a skilled trapeze artist who was murdered during a performance by a mysterious assassin known as Hook.

“However, instead of dying, the Hindu goddess Rama Kushna granted him the power to possess the living, tasking him with finding her killer and using his new powers to bring justice.

As Deadman, he can take over and control the bodies of other people, using their skills and abilities to fight crime and aid other heroes.

Despite his spectral state, Deadman struggles with loneliness and a desire for peace, often acting as a tragic figure, trapped between the worlds of the living and the dead.

Deadman could be the basis for a really great animated series, so if this news is true, I hope the project eventually gets the green light.
